Hydrogen membrane - Refineries  [ Return towards  Hydrogen membrane  ]

Recovery and recycling of hydrogen

• Customer Benefits when using hydrogen membranes

- Improve H2 utilization.
- Increased hydroprocessing throughput rates.
- Prolong catalyst life.

• Use of membranes :

Recovery and recycling of hydrogen in various refinery hydrotreating streams is a critical way to meet the increase demand for hydrogen to meet new environmental regulations.  hydrogen membranes have been assisting refiners meet the their hydrogen requirements for over a decade.

From hydrotreating to hydrocracking or hydrodesulfurization (HDS), the primary purpose of these operations is to saturate olefins and/or to reduce the sulfur and/or nitrogen within a feedstock. The boiling range of the feed can be lowered (hydrocracking) or remain constant (hydrotreating). The use of  hydrogen membranes provides additional hydrogen for these applications.

membranes can operate as high as 120 Bara and flow rates up to 300 MMSFD (330,000 Nm3/h). Typical hydrogen recovery can reach 98% in volume. Hydrogen purity can be as high as 99.9%.
