Nitrogen membrane - Drilling  [ Return towards  Oil and Gas Applications  ]

Drilling with Nitrogen membranes and Nitrogen membranes in Underbalanced Drilling

• Drilling with Nitrogen membranes

The use of nitrogen in drilling applications has increased significantly in the last decade. Whether used as part of an

Underbalanced Drilling Package or used simply to minimize the risk of down-hole fires, the use of membranes generated nitrogen offers significant economic incentives to the drilling industry.

• Nitrogen membranes in Underbalanced Drilling

Oil and gas well production can be significantly improved by Underbalanced Drilling. By maintaining the drilling fluid at a pressure lower than that of the surrounding formation, drilling improves formation porosity and increases permeation rates. High pressure nitrogen provides a low density drilling fluid which allows a lower downhole hydrostatic pressure. Membranes based nitrogen provides a fluid that is both safe and economical for the application.

Nitrogen (Membranes) Production Units (NPU’s) safely provide inert gas (95% N2) at 12 Bar, which is boosted to 70 - 150 Bar. N2 flow rates from 500 SCFM ( 790 Nm3/h) to 3,000 SCFM (4,700Nm3/h).
